Curriculum open house


The Department of Rehabilitation Medicine’s curriculum programs in occupational therapy, physical therapy and prosthetics/orthotics will be featured in an open house from 3:30 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 15, in room BB-912 of the Health Sciences Center. No registration is required. Participants should take the BB Tower elevators to the ninth floor and then follow the signs. In addition to getting information on the curriculum for each program, prospective students will be able to meet faculty and current students. Call 598-5392 for more information.



Women and heart disease


“Women’s Fitness: Healthy Hearts, Active Lives” will be the topic for the next Healthy-U program at REI. Dr. Florence Sheehan and fitness instructor Nan Healy will talk about realistic ways to approach diet and exercise, and how to recognize symptoms of heart disease and stroke. The free program is from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19, at the REI downtown Seattle store. Call 543-3620 for more information.



Biostatistics award


Dr. Patrick Heagerty, associate professor of biostatistics in the School of Public Health and Community Medicine, this summer received the George W. Snedecor Award given by the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPASS) and presented at the 2001 Joint Statistical meetings in Atlanta. He was honored for his paper “Marginally Specified Logistic-Normal Models for Longitudinal Binary Data.” The award is for a noteworthy publication in the field of biometry.
