University of Washington women physicians featured in anthology

Eight current and former University of Washington physicians and a School of Medicine alumna are featured in the new book, This Side of Doctoring: Reflections from Women in Medicine (edited by Dr. Eliza Lo Chin, Sage Publications). The book features a collection of stories, poems and essays about being physicians while balancing other responsibilities as mothers, housekeepers, wives and community leaders. Featuring 151 voices from pioneer lady doctors to today’s medical students, the book includes sketches that reflect both their personal and professional lives.

UW doctors featured in the book include: Dr. Chris Surawicz , professor of medicine; Dr. Florence Sheehan, research professor in cardiology; Dr.Emily Transue, clinical instructor; Dr. Nassim Assefi, acting instructor in medicine and obstetrics and gynecology; Dr. Jennifer Best, internal medicine resident; UW alumna Dr. Grace Holmes; Dr. Teresa Clabots, clinical assistant professor of pediatrics; Dr. Sheri Hunt, former fellow in child and adolescent psychiatry; and Dr. Patricia Temple, former clinical associate professor of pediatrics.

This Side of Doctoring: Reflections from Women in Medicine is available in local bookstores and from online booksellers.
