Larry Kessler to speak on medical device regulation by FDA

Dr. Larry Kessler, director of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Office of Surveillance and Biometrics, has been in Seattle this year as a visiting scientist at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.

He will speak on “Postmarketing Surveillance of Medical Devices: Holes in Your Safety Net” at 11:30 a.m., Monday, June 3, in room D-209 of the Health Sciences Center. The talk is open to everyone and is sponsored by the School of Medicine’s Office of Research and Graduate Education.

Under Kessler’s leadership, the FDA has implemented medical device regulations for user reporting and has completed a pilot program to track “adverse events” related to medical devices.
