Mini-Med classes begin Feb. 12

UW Medicine is offering the general public and the UW community the chance to learn about medical science, patient care and cutting-edge research by attending Mini-Medical School 2003. The seven-part series begins Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. in Hogness Auditorium, Warren G. Magnuson Health Sciences Center, on N.E. Pacific Street, Seattle. Programs are scheduled for every Wednesday evening through March 26.

Dr. Carlos Pellegrini, Henry N. Harkins professor and chair of the Department of Surgery, and Dr. Ed Walker, medical director of UW Medical Center and associate dean of the School of Medicine, are the hosts.

Curriculum for each week’s presentation is chosen to broaden the Mini-Medical School student’s knowledge of anatomy, physiology and various disease states. Students will leave each session with insights into what it is like to attend medical school. They will also learn about advances in medical research and UW Medicine’s role in advancing quality health care in the Pacific Northwest.

A charitable donation to UW Medicine is suggested in lieu of a registration fee. Space is limited, so pre-registration is necessary. Call (206) 685-9420, or register online at http://courses.washington.edu/minimed/

Each Mini-Med class session will be videotaped for future television and Internet broadcast, so participants may be inadvertently videotaped.
