BEST IN SHOW: Staffers Kathy Hall and Cathy Schwartz received the international Best of Show and Distinguished Technical Communication awards from the Society for Technical Communication (STC) for the Department of Environmental Health’s 1999–2001 biennial report. The award is part of STC’s annual technical communication competitions program, which highlights the best examples of the art and science of technical communication. Hall is a writer-editor and Schwartz is a graphic artist. The Society for Technical Communication is a professional organization for technical writers, editors, illustrators, managers, and educators with more than 23,000 members in 153 chapters worldwide.

BEST IN CLINIC: The UW’s doctoral program in clinical psychology received the Outstanding Training Program award from the American Association of Behavior Therapy — the main national organization of scientifically oriented psychology programs. The program’s clinical director is Robert Kohlenberg.

BEST IN OCEAN: The College of Ocean and Fishery Sciences gave its annual awards to Andre Punt and Julia Parrish, both of the School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences, for Distinguished Graduate Teaching and Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching, respectively; Charles Eriksen, of the School of Oceanography, for Distinguished Research; and Shelly Carpenter, School of Oceanography, for Outstanding Staff.
