DRAMA KINGS AND QUEENS: When The Time of Your Life begins preview performances at Seattle Repertory Theatre tonight, the UW School of Drama will be well represented. Professional Actor Training Program graduates Kyra Himmelbaum and Lori Larsen are playing Elsie and society lady/Nick’s ma respectively, while current PATP students Scott Giguere and Marya Sea Kiminski are in the ensemble. And backstage, lecturer Geoff Alm is choreographing the fight scenes.


EDSITEment EXCITEMENT: The UW Libraries Digital Collections has been selected for inclusion on EDSITEment as one of the best online resources for education in the humanities. EDSITEment provides a central resource bank for parents, teachers, and students across the country seeking excellent, content-rich sites from among the thousands of educational sites now available on the Internet. In October 2003 alone, EDSITEment visitors logged in almost 170,000 user sessions.


FOSSIL MAN: Wes Wehr, affiliate curator at the Burke Museum, received the Harrell L. Strimple Award from the Paleontological Society. The award honors outstanding contributions to paleontology by a person who does not derive a livelihood in that field. Wehr began volunteering at the Burke in the 1960s and earned his affiliate curator title in 1972.


LIVING LEGEND: John Goodlad, professor emeritus of education and co-founder of the Center for Educational Renewal, is one of four researchers identified as “exceptional living scholars” in educational leadership. The designation is the product of a yearlong survey by Carol Mullen of the University of South Florida, who asked thousands of professors across the country to choose the best of their peers. Named along with Goodlad were John Hoyle, Texas A&M; Joseph Murphy, Vanderbilt; and Thomas Sergiovanni, Trinity. The results of the study are published in this month’s NCPEA Education Leadership Review


LIBRARIANS WANT BOOKS: The Association of Library & Information Science Students is holding a book and media sale Feb. 18 and 19 in the By George lobby, and they’re looking for books, CDs, tapes, DVDs and even vinyl records. There are donation boxes in Odegaard, Suzzallo, Allen, Foster and Engineering libraries, or you can arrange to have your donation picked up by contacting Alyssa Deutschler (bashkir@u.washington.edu). Proceeds of the sale go to fund student activities and events at the Information School.


KUDOS: Dean of Nursing Nancy Woods will be given an honorary doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania this spring . . . Karyl Winn, political papers curator for UW Libraries’ special collections, was honored with the Pacific Northwest History Award given by the Pacific Northwest Historians Guild . . . Making Jews Modern, A book by Sarah Abrevaya Stein, assistant professor of history and international studies, was published recently by Indiana University Press.
