TV journalist Russert cancels appearance

Tim Russert, host of NBC’s Meet the Press and other programs, has canceled his appearance Wednesday evening at the University Book Store to participate in NBC’s coverage of the state funeral for former president Ronald Reagan. The store says those who have purchased tickets should keep them and watch for word of rescheduling the appearance.

Russert was to appear at the HUB Auditorium on the University campus at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 9, but not to discuss presidential politics, at least at first — to talk about.

Russert is author of the new memoi, Big Russ and Me: Father and Son — Lessons from Life. He is managing editor and moderator of Meet the Press, which at 55 years is the longest-running program in the history of television. He also serves as political analyst for NBC Nightly News, has a weekly interview show on CNBC and is a contributing anchor for MSNBC. Russert’s incisive interviews have helped make Meet the Press the highest-rated Sunday morning political show on the air.

The book, similar in theme to Russert’s fellow anchor Tom Brokaw’s The Greatest Generation, traces Russert’s life with his father — who worked two jobs to keep the family going — and slowly unveils the father’s long-held stories of World War II. For more information, call 206-634-3400.
