Allen started her volunteer career in high school

Name: Sarah E. Allen

UW Job: Office Assistant III in Registrar/Admissions Mail Services Office

Volunteer Activity: The Interact Club

Organization’s mission: Sponsored by the Rotary Club, the Interact Club’s mission was to help out our community and other communities throughout the world

How long a volunteer: I was a member throughout my high school years at Shorewood.

Why this activity: To tell the truth, I started by going with a friend. Later I became the club’s secretary and made many friends there.

Memorable experiences while volunteering: Our greatest project was to send sports equipment to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The school we were donating to did not have sports equipment or enough money to buy it. Our club solicited donations from our peers at school and from our community. The Rotary Club took care of transporting our donations.

Satisfaction in volunteering: I really don’t need someone to tell me that I did a good job in order to make me happy. I like the smiles. I like the feeling of accomplishment — the feeling that I get when I go through a project from start to end. I like the feeling that I really made a difference to this big world through at least one person.
