Creating patent strategies and portfolios

Developing patents from research work will be the topic for the next program in the “Things Your Mother Never Taught You” series sponsored by the School of Medicine’s Office of Industry Relations.

The presentation, “From Vision to Value: Creating Patent Strategies and Portfolios from Your Research,” from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 17, in room T-739 of the Health Sciences Buillding, is open to everyone.

Dr. Susan Wray, director of industry relations for the School of Medicine, and Dr. Paula Szoka, director of invention licensing for the UW Tech Transfer Office, will be the speakers. There will be time for questions at the end of the presentations.

Areas to be covered include:


  • Turning research into a patentable intellectual property portfolio
  • Taking steps toward disclosing an invention and determining patentability
  • Commercializing technology
  • Examples of active UW faculty patent portfolios.
