ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES
Pilot project funding available
The Center for Ecogenetics and Environmental Health (CEEH) is offering pilot project funding in broadly-defined areas of “gene-environment interactions.” The CEEH fosters basic and applied research into the molecular and genetic basis for diseases with an environmental etiology. The CEEH is also interested in the Ethical, Legal and Social Issues (ELSI) surrounding the use of genetic information from a public health context. Up to four scientific research projects including an ELSI-related project, will be funded in 2005 for up to $25,000 each. Applications are due on Jan. 31 for funding beginning April 1. Notice of Expedited Rule Making

Title of Rule and Other Identifying Information: Housekeeping amendments to various Title 478 WAC, University of Washington rules.
Statutory Authority for Adoption and Statute Being Implemented: RCW 28B.20.130.
Purpose of the Proposal and Its Anticipated Effects, Including Any Changes in Existing Rules:
- Proposed amendments to WAC 478-04-030, 478-250-050, and 478-250-060 show an office name change (from Administrative Procedures Office to Rules Coordination Office), that took effect January 2004; and
- Proposed amendments to WAC 478-116-145, 478-116-161, 478-116-311, and 478-116-431 provide small wording changes that clarify and make consistent language used throughout chapter 478-116 WAC.
Reasons Supporting Proposal: This proposal meets the criteria for expedited rule making, as stated in RCW 34.05.353 (1)(c), “The proposed rules only correct typographical errors, make address or name changes, or clarify language of a rule without changing its effect.” These amendments are also consistent with the provisions of Washington State Executive Order
97-02.

The University of Washington Board of Regents will hold a regular meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, in the Walker-Ames Room, Kane Hall.
