Multimedia program looks at war’s effect on children

The effect of war on the lives of children will be the topic of an art exhibit and symposium at the UW in March. A film series on that topic has already begun and will continue well into February.

The centerpiece of the events is the acclaimed exhibit They Still Draw Pictures: Children’s Art in Wartime from the Spanish Civil War to Kosovo. Curated by Anthony Geist, UW professor of Spanish & Portugese studies and comparative literature, the exhibit features children’s drawings from the refugee camps of the Spanish Civil War (1936–1939) and subsequent war zones as well as documentary prints by photojournalist Robert Capa.

Films on this subject will be shown Tuesday nights until Feb. 22 at the Odegaard Undergraduate Library. The art exhibit will run March 2 to April 1 at the Jacob Lawrence Gallery, and the symposium will be March 4–5 in 102 Smith. For more information, call 206-543-3920.
