Author on race, gender issues to speak

Loyola Marymount sociologist Margaret Hunter, author of Race, Gender and the Politics of Skin Tone, will discuss and read from her work from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 27, in the conference room of the University of Washington Club. Admission is free, all are welcome, and a book signing will follow.


Hunter, an assistant professor of sociology at Loyola Marymount University, specializes in comparative and ethnic relations, contemporary racial attitudes and women of color in the United States. She has written several articles and book chapters on skin tone stratification, feminist theory and the racial construction of knowledge.


Her work has been published in Gender & Society, Teaching Sociology, Sociological Inquiry, Race & Society, and National Journal of Sociology . Her book, Race, Gender, And The Politics Of Skin Tone, published by Routledge in 2005, tackles the issue of inequality between lighter and darker-skinned women.
