Goudeva offers ‘solo spectacle’ in music and voice

Double bass player and singer Irina-Kalina Goudeva, with Joshua Parmenter providing live electronics, will present “Lavarayaha,” a solo spectacle for voice, double bass, electronics, visual effects, acting and dancing at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 16 in Brechemin Auditorium in the Music Building.

The concert will feature music by Lars Graugaard, Julia Tzenova, Wayne Siegel, Cort Lippe, Parmenter, Ejnar Kanding, Emil Tabacov, Morten Skogaard Danielsen, Yael Acher, Goudeva, Morten Olsen, Casper Cordes and Jexper Holmen, with texts by Antoine de Saint-Exupery, Pablo Neruda, Goudeva, Danielsen and Tom Waits. Visual design is by Olavi Linna, soren Zeuth, Anders Elberling, Poul Ib Henricksen, Ewa Skowronska Slaw and Goudeva.

An eclectic artist, Goudeva experiments with cross-overs between different genres of music and with equal intensity devotes herself to music as varied as renaissance and baroque to modern tango, jazz and electroacoustic music. A contralto, she also incorporates her voice as an integral part of the performance, thus adding a new dimension to the expression of her double bass.

Parmenter, who will accompany Goudeva, earned his doctorate in music composition at the UW. His music has been performed throughout the United States and Europe. He specializes in both acoustic and electro-acoustic music, especially music that combines performers with real-time electronics, as in this concert.

The performance is free.
