Media Alert: Arbor Day, Earth Day photo opportunities

Among the events coinciding with Earth Day this year are the College of Forest Resources’ annual Arbor Day Fair for area first- and second-graders, and a day of trail building and clean up with volunteers from the Student Conservation Association at the Washington Park Arboretum, a part of the UW Botanic Gardens.


1,200 first- and second-graders to attend
Arbor Day Fair April 20-21


WHO:
Sponsored by the University of Washington’s College of Forest Resources and its alumni association, volunteers will teach paper recycling, lead tree tours, explain how restoring salmon habitat helps the environment and offer a variety of hands-on activities.


WHEN:
Thursday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the greatest number of students there between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.


WHERE:
Anderson Hall is at the southern-most part of Stevens Way, the road that winds through main campus. From 15th Avenue Northeast, turn east onto campus at Lincoln Way. Stop at the gatehouse for parking directions.




More than 200 Student Conservation Association
volunteers expected at arboretum April 22


WHO:
High school and college students with the Student Conservation Association, a national organization with a Seattle chapter and the motto of “Changing lives through service to nature,” will work with UW students and faculty on trails, removing invasive plants, pulling weeds and mulching in the Washington Park Arboretum, part of the University of Washington Botanic Gardens.

Saturday, Earth Day rally from 9:30-10 a.m., and service work from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
