Two concerts set for Nov. 11

The UW School of Music will offer two concerts on Saturday, Nov. 11.

Ben Hausmann, acting principal oboist of the Seattle Symphony, principal oboist of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and oboe faculty member at the UW, continues the celebration of Mozart’s 250th birthday this year with the world premiere of his opus 2 sonata about the composer, the Sempre Jeunehomme. Other works on the program are also by Hausmann and will receive their world premieres at this concert.

Prior to joining the Seattle Symphony, Hausmann served as principal oboe of L’Orchestre Symphonique de Québec, the Florida Philharmonic and the Savannah Symphony. He has been a frequent guest of the Metropolitan Opera, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and Baltimore Symphony. The concert is at 2 p.m. in Brechemin Audiorium. Tickets are $10 at the door.

Later on the same day, Philip Brown, principal trombonist with the Tacoma Symphony, one of four winners of the 2006 Ladies Musical Club prestigious Solo Competition and a member of the School of Music trombone faculty, pays tribute to legendary trombonist and composer Raymond Premru, accompanied by Tonya Siderius on piano.

Also on the program are works by Telemann and Ferdinand David. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. in Brechemin. Tickets are $10 at the door.
