‘History detective’ to speak Jan. 20

Wes Cowan, star of the PBS television series History Detectives and guest appraiser on Antiques Roadshow, will share his antiquing adventures as the guest of the Burke Museum at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 20 in 120 Kane. Cowan will also offer insights on a limited number of historical artifacts brought in by predetermined guests. This event is sponsored by the Burke Museum, KCTS, and the Museum of History and Industry.


Cowan is founder and owner of Cowan’s Auctions, Inc. in Cincinnati, Ohio. An internationally recognized expert in Historic Americana, Cowan writes a bi-weekly antiques column for the Cincinnati Enquirer, monthly columns for Antique Review, Collectors News and The SE Antiquing Journal, and is a frequently requested speaker at antique events around the country. He is licensed as an auctioneer in Ohio and holds a BA and MA in anthropology from the University of Kentucky, and a doctorate in anthropology from the University of Michigan.

Cowan will also be at the Burke Museum from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21 for Artifact Identification Day. Visitors can bring an unidentified cultural artifact to be examined by the museum’s experts.
