Creativity is subject for Practical Pedagogy program

“Cultivating ‘Creativity’ in the Classroom” is the next presentation in the Practical Pedagogy series. It will be at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb, 20 in 202 Communications.

Iain Robertson (Landscape Architecture) will present a hands-on exploration of techniques designed to “cultivate” participants’ creativity, followed by — or interspersed with — discussions of the contributions of “spatial intelligence” to pedagogy.

Examples of student projects from yesteryear will illustrate some of Robertson’s explorations of creativity in classes. Fundamental to this approach to education is his belief that if the University is to be a genuine institution of higher education, rather than merely a purveyor of “hire” education, then cultivating the creativity of all students ought to be one of its top priorities.

Sergio Casillas (English) will demonstrate an engaging, inductive approach to genre analysis, as a means for helping students (and ourselves) to understand the relationship between texts and the contexts in which they operate.
