Carter and Maxwell Awards nomination deadline is May 7

The National Foundation for Infectious Diseases is accepting nominations for the for The 2008 Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Award for Humanitarian Contributions to the Health of Humankind and The Maxwell Finland Award for Scientific Achievement. The UW has been invited to submit nominations. A brief description of each award is below.


The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Award for Humanitarian Contributions to the Health of Humankind: This award is named for Former President Jimmy Carter and Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter. The award recognizes people who have made outstanding humanitarian contributions to improving the health of humankind. Priority is given to contributions in the area of infectious diseases. Any individual or group may submit a nomination for this award. Nominations are due Monday, May 7. The Maxwell Finland Award for Scientific Achievement: The award is named for Dr. Maxwell Finland, a distinguished scholar and scientist who pioneered work in epidemiology and antimicrobial resistance, and helped define the discipline of infectious diseases as we know it today. The award recognizes scientist who have made outstanding contributions to the understanding of infectious diseases or public health. Nominations are due Monday, May 7.
