Guitarist Partington to perform Oct. 7

Award-winning British guitarist Michael Partington, a UW School of Music alumnus and a new faculty member, presents his debut recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7 in Brechemin Auditorium.

The program includes Piazzolla’s Las Cuatro Estaciones Porteñas, Rodrigo’s Tres Piezas Españolas, and Sonata for Guitar by Welsh composer Stephen Goss, written for Partington in 2006.

Partington began playing guitar at age 6 while growing up in Wales, gave his first public performance a year later, and won his first competition at age 9. Partington has trained with many of the world’s greatest guitarists, including Oscar Ghiglia, Eliot Fisk, Eduardo Fernandez, Manuel Barrueco, and David Russell, who commented on his “exquisite good taste and fluid perfection.” He received a performance degree from the UW, where he was a Brechemin scholar and graduated magna cum laude. Partington replaces Steven Novacek, who retired in June after 24 years with the School of Music.

Tickets to Partington’s concert are $10 and are available at the door.
