Organ, piano concerts set this week

Kathrine Handford will perform works by Buxtehude, Bach, Bartok and others at an organ concert Sunday, Nov. 11, in the Walker-Ames Room, Kane. Handford is on the faculty of Lawrence University’s Conservatory of Music and serves as University Organist there.

She holds a Master of Music degree in Organ Performance and Literature and the highly coveted Performer’s Certificate in Organ from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she is currently pursuing a doctorate in organ.

The concert will be at 3 p.m. Tickets are $15, $10 for students and seniors, and are available at the door.

Gregory Partain, professor of piano at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky., will give a concert on Thursday, Nov. 15, in Brechemin Auditorium. His program includes Chopin’s Polonaise-Fantaisie, Beethoven’s Appassionata sonata, and Flute and Drums at Sunset by Li Yinghai.

In his 20 years on the professional concert stage, Partain, who graduated from the UW in 1982, has appeared as recitalist, chamber musician and concerto soloist.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door.
