Staff members at the Burke Museum load in the 145-million-year-old fossil of an ichthyosaur, or fish lizard, last week. Ichthyosaurs lived in the oceans of the Mesozoic Era while dinosaurs roamed the land. Though fish-shaped, the marine reptile breathed air like whales and dolphins and gave birth to live young. The fossil was donated to the Burke by the Hart family, which also recently donated a mosasaur, which was recently installed in Hitchcock Hall.
