School of Music offers voice recital, guest artists and some heavy metal rappin’

Voice students will sing, guests will perform on double bass and piano, and the UW Percussion Ensemble will rap out wild rhythms in coming days, all sponsored by the School of Music.


Artist in residence Barry Lieberman will welcome Jordan Anderson, principal double bass of the Seattle Symphony, and doctoral student Francoise Papillon on piano for a recital at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, in Brechemin Auditorium. Tickets are $10, cash or check at the door. Papillon and Anderson also will lead a master class at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 that is open to the public.


Voice students of Jane Eaglen, Joyce Guyer, Thomas Harper, Giselle Wyers and Tess Altiveros will present a program of French songs and opera arias in a voice division recital titled A Parisian Evening, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 25 in Brechemin Auditorium. Tickets are $5, cash or check at the door.


The UW Percussion Ensemble will bang out hard-core 20th century percussion music in a concert titled Heavy Metal Rappin’ at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Meany Theater. Tickets are $10. The music will feature heavy metal gongs, cymbals and bells along with electrifying rappin’ on wood, skin and plastic. Also on the program is the UW Graduate Percussion Quartet.
