Attention researchers: Office moves coming up

Does your department or unit have business pending with the Human Subjects Division or the Office of Sponsored Programs?

If so, remember that both offices are moving to UW Tower over the next two weekends, which will cause a brief interruption of their service.

So if you have deadlines or business pending with these offices in coming weeks, please read on.

The two units — both under the Office of Research — will occupy parts of floors 16 and 17 of the tower building, with a main reception area for both offices on floor 17. Dropoffs and pickups for both offices may be made at the reception desk on that floor during business hours.

  • The Human Subjects Division (HSD) works with UW researchers to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects used in research. Established in the 1970s, it has long been housed at 3935 University Way NE.

HSD will be closed the afternoon of Friday, June 13, will move to UW Tower the next day and plans to be open for business in its new home the afternoon of Monday, June 16 — or as soon as the move-in process is complete.

Due to the need to pack, move and then unpack Human Subjects files, there could be delays in processing or reviewing applications from Wednesday, June 11, through Wednesday, June 18, department staff say.

HSD will keep the same phone numbers and e-mail addresses, but the office’s campus mailbox will change — from Box 355752 to Box 359470.

  • The Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) supports and advises the UW academic community in finding outside funding for projects and collaborations.

OSP will be closed the afternoon of Friday, June 20, will move to UW Tower the next day and plans to be open for business the afternoon of Monday, June 23, or as soon as the move-in process is complete.

There, too, phone numbers and e-mail addresses will remain the same after the move, but the office’s campus mailbox will change — from Box 354945 to Box 359472. For more information about OSP, visit online at http://www.washington.edu/research/osp.

UW offices are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. week days, but UW Tower itself is open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. week days. UW-affiliated visitors will need to swipe their Husky Card through the magnetic turnstile to gain entrance to the building.

Non-UW visitors will be required to check in with photo identification at one of the two staffed visitor desks. One is in the main lobby, and the other is inside the building just across the sky bridge from the parking garage.
