Welcome back, Broken Obelisk

Broken Obelisk returned to campus June 19 after a little more than two months in the shop for repairs. The iconic sculpture by Barnett Newman was removed over spring break so that adjustments could be made to make it identical to two other iterations of the piece — one in New York and the other in Houston. The work was done by Fabrication Specialties, a local company founded by three alums of the UW School of Art that builds, installs and maintains works of public art from all over the world. The work was funded by Virginia Wright, who donated Broken Obelisk to the University in 1973.
