ATHENA ACHIEVER: Susan Eggers, Microsoft Professor of Computer Science & Engineering, has won the Athena Lecturer Award, given to women researchers who have made fundamental contributions to computer science. The Association for Computing Machinery honored Eggers for developing simultaneous multithreading, a technique that improves the efficiency of certain processors and has been adopted by Intel, IBM, Sun and others.

GRASSY RENEWAL: If you’ve walked by Frosh Pond lately, you’ve probably noticed earthmoving equipment on the east side, in front of Guggenheim Hall. Long a staging area for construction projects, the area is in the process of being liberated for use by pedestrians again. According to Campus Landscape Architect Kristine Kenney, the blacktop has been taken out and the area will have some paths surrounded by grass. Lighting and seating will also be installed.
