Celebrate the Washington Park Arboretum’s 75th anniversary with parties July 30 and Aug. 6
Washington Park Arboretum’s 75th Anniversary Event Series will shift into full gear later this month and in early August with two summer soirees open to the general public.
The first is Sundaes on Thursday, featuring guided tours of the Arboretum for kids and grown-ups — plus delicious hand-crafted ice cream. It takes place at from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Graham Visitors Center in the Arboretum. The cost is $5 per person; children ages 5 and under eat for free. The event is sponsored by local ice cream maker Snoqualmie Gourmet.
The second party is Art in the Park, featuring an outdoor art exhibit plus an optional wine and cheese tasting. It takes place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, also at the visitors center. Many of the local artists showcased in the event specialize in botanical and natural history themes.
Reservations are required for the tasting, which costs $25 per person. To register, e-mail Suzanne Parlier (sparlier@arboretumfoundation.org) or call 206-325-4510. Information about participating artists and wineries is posted on the Arboretum Foundation Web site.
The 75th Anniversary Event Series is hosted by the Arboretum Foundation and its partners at the Arboretum — Seattle Parks & Recreation, and the UW Botanic Gardens. It is sponsored by KUOW 94.9 FM, The Berger Partnership, the Portico Group and Agua Verde Café and Paddle Club.
