The Marine Band — America’s oldest musical organization — to perform Sunday, Oct. 4
America’s oldest professional musical organization, the Marine Band, will perform at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4, in Meany Theater.
The Marine Band has performed for every U.S. President since John Adams. Given the title “The President’s Own” by Thomas Jefferson, the band’s primary mission is to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Band members hail from all over the U.S., including the Puget Sound region.
Karl Johnson of Federal Way is bass trombonist. Harry Ong of Seattle plays B-flat clarinet, and John Troxel of Seattle plays French horn in this elite ensemble.
This concert will feature a variety of works including patriotic favorites, concert band classics, and orchestral transcriptions. Admission is free, but advance tickets are required. They are available at the Arts Ticket Office, 4001 University Way NE, 206-543-4880. There is a limit of two tickets per patron. Please note that the Marine Band has stipulated that no large bags are allowed in the concert hall.
