The UW School of Music offers two concerts this weekend
Pianist Becky Billock, a School of Music alumna, will perform works by American women composers at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in Brechemin Auditorium. A wind ensemble chamber concert will be performed on Oct. 25.
The choice of music for her concert is a natural for Billock, who did her dissertation on contemporary women composers. Program selections include Six Preludes, by Marion Bauer; Lament by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich; Secret and Glass Gardens, by Jennifer Higdon; Mephisto Rag, by Libby Larsen; Four piano pieces, by Amy Beach; Toccata for piano, by Emma Lou Diemer; and Troubled Waters, by Margaret Bonds.
Billock is an active recital soloist and chamber musician. She has appeared as soloist with regional orchestras in Oregon and California and has performed solo and chamber recitals in numerous locations throughout the U.S., including several tours of Northwest cities, and appearances on the Seattle radio station Classical KING FM 98.1, the Pittsburgh radio station WQED 98.3FM, and American Public Media’s Performance Today. Billock also performs, lectures and adjudicates frequently in the Pittsburgh area where she lives with her husband, Jonathan Aldrich, and her two young daughters.
Tickets for the concert are $10, cash or check at the door.
