Nissan’s Zero-Emissions Vehicle on Campus This Afternoon

Nissan will be showing off Leaf, its forthcoming all-electric vehicle, on campus today between 2:30 and 5 p.m. in the plaza between More Hall and the Mechanical Engineering Building. Nissan staff will be on hand to answer questions about the car, which the company says will be available to customers in late 2010.

The Seattle stop is part of a 22-city tour Nissan Leaf Zero Emissions Tour that kicked off last month in California. The Leaf was at Qwest Field yesterday; it will be on display at Bellevue Square this morning, and at Seattle Center all day Saturday. Nissan’s Web site says Seattle is one of the areas that has shown strongest interest in the car, and will be one of the first cities where it will be made available to customers.

This afternoon UW students in the Department of Electrical Engineering’s “Energy & Environment” seminar will hear about development of electric-powered vehicles from Mark Perry, director of project planning and strategy for Nissan Americas.
