ACING CASE: The UW picked up plenty of awards in the Council For the Advancement and Support of Education’s District VIII competition, starting with a Grand Gold in fundraising and special event publications for the program of the Annual Recogniton Gala by UW Marketing, Jo-Ann Sire and Creative Communications. The Foster School of Business Faculty Trading Cards won a gold in the Branding and Image Development/Identity Programs and Projects category for Andrew Krueger, Eric Nobis, Renate Kroll, Ann Kumasaka and Matt Hagen. UW Brand Videos 2009-2010 won a gold in the Public Relations Video category for UW Marketing and DNA Seattle, while the UW School of Social Work’s 75th Anniversary Celebration Publication won a gold in the Multi-Page Print Design category for Rose Berg, Bruce Betz, Barbara Hartinger, Kim Isaac, Jee-Young Kim and Greg Ross. UW Tacoma’s LEED Guide by Tyler Wilson won a gold in the Single-Page Print Design category, and UWT’s Paulsen Lecture Poster, also by Wilson, won a gold in the Posters category.
The Alaska Yukon Pacific Centennial won silver in the Special Event Publications category for UW Marketing and Jennifer Cepeda, while the Alumni Association’s magazine, Columns, won silver in the cover design category for its December 2008 issue, designed by Ken Shafer.
Mentoring Moments won a bronze in the Other Special Purpose Publications category for Susan Canfield, Karin Mellskog, Matt Hagen and Heather Prenevost, while Columns magazine won a bronze in the Print General Interest Magazines category for Jon Marmor, Eric McHenry, Ken Shafer Design, Sue Brockmann and Chuck Blumenfeld. The Annual Recognition Gala Invitation won bronze in the Multi-Page Print Design category for UW Marketing, Jo-Ann Sire and Creative Communications. Beth Luce of UW Tacoma won a bronze in the Individual Features or Articles category for “The Storytellers: Three faculty authors reveal their bookish sides.” District VIII covers Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana, as well as Western Canada. Congratulations to all the winners.
BETTER BIZ: Chesca Ward, the new manager of the UW’s Business Diversity Program, was recently selected as a member of the Northwest Minority Supplier Development Council for 2010-2012. The council focuses on shaping the future of minority business growth in the region.
