Boaters considering a cruise to Southeast Alaska will get valuable information at a one-day workshop cosponsored by Washington Sea Grant and the Seattle Yacht Club. “Beyond the Broughtons” will focus on boating beyond British Columbia’s Broughton Archipelago, with special emphasis on Southeast Alaska’s cruising highlights.
The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 27, in the Heritage Room of the Seattle Yacht Club, 1807 E. Hamlin St., Seattle. The cost is $20.
Topics will include strategizing routes, open-water crossings, working the weather, co-existing with commercial vessels, Ketchikan customs, chart inaccuracies and more. The instructor, Capt. Linda Lewis, holds a U.S. Coast Guard Master 100-ton License and is an associate professor emerita at the UW.
