Public notice: Availability of a final supplemental environmental impact statement
Pursuant to the provisions of WAC 197-11-510 and WAC 478-324-140, the University of Washington hereby provides public notice of the: Availability of a final supplemental environmental impact statement
Project name: Population Health facility
Proponent: University of Washington
Description: The University is proposing a site selection and construction of a new above and below grade building to create a physical convening space and compelling catalyst for Population Health endeavors across all three UW campuses, the region and the world, creating a high-profile marker for the UW’s commitment to Population Health, as outlined in President Ana Mari Cauce’s May 2016 address to the community. The facility would house the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, Department of Global Health and selected portions of the School of Public Health. It would provide space to serve as an idea laboratory and collaboration incubator for students, faculty, staff and visitors from a wide range of population health disciplines, who would come together for training, research work and informal discussions yielding new insights and innovation opportunities.
Location: Four alternatives are analyzed in the Draft Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement: Three alternative sites and the no-action alternative. The project is in the early planning stages but is currently estimated to be approximately 315,000 square feet due to preliminary site analysis. Site 37W is in the West Campus in an area bounded by NE 40th Street on the North, University Way NE on the East, the Burke-Gilman Trail and NE Pacific Street on the South, and Brooklyn Ave NE on the West. Demolition of up to five structures would occur (3947, 3941, 3939, 3935, and 3917 University Way NE). Site 22C is in the Central Campus and bounded by NE Grant Lane on the North, Architecture and Guthrie Halls on the East, the Physics/Astronomy Building to the South, and 15th Ave NE on the West. Demolition of up to four structures would occur (Guthrie Annexes 1, 2, 3 and 4). Sites 50S and 51S are in the South Campus and bounded by the Magnuson Health Sciences Center to the North, the Central Utility Plant Building to the East, the South Campus Center to the South, and NE Columbia Road and South Gatehouse to the West. The S1 parking garage would be demolished.
