UW jumps 2 spots to No. 25 on Center for World University Rankings 2017 list
The University of Washington is No. 25 in the world — No. 6 among U.S. public institutions — according to a new list released Monday by the Center for World University Rankings. Last year, the UW ranked No. 27 on the list.
More than 27,000 higher education institutions were evaluated worldwide.
The CWUR provides authoritative global university rankings, which are known for objectivity, transparency and consistency and are trusted by students, academics, university administrators and government officials from around the world.
According to the group’s methodology, universities are evaluated based on the quality of education and training of students as well as the prestige of the faculty members and the quality of their research.
The quality of education is measured by the number of alumni who have won major international awards, prizes and medals relative to the university’s size. Alumni employment is measured by the number of alumni who have held CEO positions at the world’s top companies, relative to the university’s size. The quality of faculty is measured by the number of academics who have won major international awards, prizes and medals.
Other indicators include the total number of research papers, as well as the number appearing in highly influential journals and the number of papers frequently cited; the university’s broad impact; and the number of international patent filings.
The UW scored high marks on its broad impact, the number of research papers appearing in highly influential journals and the number of frequently cited research papers.
