Video: UW’s 145th commencement is held virtually
More than 18,000 new University of Washington graduates were recognized in a first-ever online ceremony Saturday, June 13. All three UW campuses held a joint event that was broadcast around the globe and watched by thousands of graduates and their families in more than 40 countries.
Remarks from President Ana Mari Cauce and other officials were delivered live from Sylvan Grove in front of the original four columns that once adorned the UW’s first building in downtown Seattle.
Degrees were awarded to those who have completed academic requirements during the 2019-2020 academic year.
A second ceremony for the class of 2020 is planned for spring 2021 at Husky Stadium. Commencement activities were moved online this spring because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
