Seven UW doctors named among the best in America for women’s health care, in Good Housekeeping magazine poll
Seven physicians at University of Washington Medical Center were named among The Best Doctors For Women in a new poll commissioned by Good Housekeeping magazine and published in the August 1997 issue, currently on newsstands.
Good Housekeeping asked more than 260 department chairs and section chiefs at major medical centers across the country to nominate the top specialists in women’s health. They were asked, “In your opinion, which specialists provide the most expert treatment and are the leading clinicians for diseases in women?” To eliminate bias, the respondents were not allowed to recommend anyone at their own institutions. The magazine lists the 401 doctors most frequently cited.
UW Medical Center doctors on the list are:
* Dr. Thomas J. Benedetti, professor of obstetrics and gynecology, a specialist in treating high-risk pregnancies;
* Dr. David A. Eschenbach, professor of obstetrics and gynecology, a specialist in treating gynecologic infections and sexually transmitted diseases;
* Dr. Steven Gabbe, professor and chair of obstetrics and gynecology, a nationally recognized specialist in treating gestational diabetes. Gabbe is one of four doctors profiled by the magazine. He himself has Type 1 diabetes.
* Dr. Barbara A. Goff, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology, a specialist in treating gynecologic cancers;
* Dr. Benjamin E. Greer, professor of obstetrics and gynecology, a specialist in treating gynecologic cancers;
* Dr. Michael R. Soules, professor of obstetrics and gynecology, director of reproductive endocrinology, a specialist in treating infertility;
* Dr. Morton A. Stenchever, professor of obstetrics and gynecology and a specialist in treating urinary incontinence.
UW Medical Center is a primary teaching hospital for the UW School of Medicine, the only medical school for the Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WWAMI) region. Located on the University of Washington campus, UWMC is a 450bed comprehensive care facility. It is consistently ranked one of the best hospitals in the nation.
