Learn about health, medicine and science at UW Open House
More than 65 exhibitors will demonstrate the latest in research and technology in health sciences and medicine at the University of Washington Health Sciences Open House from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 23, and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 24.
The theme for the event is “Mapping a Healthy Future.” You can:
– Hold a human brain in your hands and learn about the intricacies of the brain.
– Learn about portion distortion and healthy eating.
– Have your bone density and fat composition tested.
– Try a hands-on dental experience and learn about dental care for children.
– Test your ability to design a new medication, using an interactive computer program.
– Learn about the genetics of human cells by looking through a microscope and taking a picture suitable for framing.
Many of these hands-on, interactive exhibits feature virtual reality medical presentations, high-tech patient simulators and computerized models of recent research. Information will be available on educational and career opportunities in health sciences.
The Open House is held at the UW Health Sciences Center, 1959 N.E. Pacific, Seattle. The Health Sciences Open House is generally held every two years.
Up to 1,000 students are expected Friday, with many other children and adults visiting Saturday. The Health Sciences Open House is appropriate for people of all ages.
