Arboretum sponsors photography contest

The Washington Park Arboretum is holding its first photo contest and the event is open to amateur and professional photographers.

Photos can be submitted in the following categories: plant portraits, landscapes, seasons, life in the arboretum, and the Japanese Garden. Photos will be judged by Joy Spurr, David McDonald and Andrew Drake, all accomplished garden photographers.

There are grand prizes of $500 in both the professional and amateur divisions and additional prizes for professional and amateur winners in each of the five categories. Grand prize photos will be published in the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and the Washington Park Arboretum Bulletin, a quarterly horticultural journal.

All photos must be received by June 1, and taken within Washington Park Arboretum (not including the Washington Park playfields). For more information and complete contest guidelines, go to http://www.arboretumfoundation.org , call 206-325-4510 or e-mail gvc@arboretumfoundation.org.
