Faculty development workshops scheduled for spring

Three faculty development workshops are planned this spring, sponsored by the School of Medicine’s Department of Medical Education. They are open to faculty in other health sciences schools, as well as medicine, at no cost.   • “Behind the Headlines: Collaborating for Patient Safety,” billed as an “interprofessional workshop,” is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon on Tuesday, March 26, in room 316 of South Campus Center. The focus will be on collaborating across health professions to promote patient safety. The principal faculty are Dr. Eric B. Larson, professor of medicine and health services and medical director of UW Medical Center; Dr. Pamela Mitchell, professor of nursing and director of the Center for Health Sciences Interprofessional Education, and Dr. Lynne Robins, associate professor of medical education and family medicine.
















  • “Cross-Cultural Tools for Effective Leadership: The “Four-Fold Way,” is also an interprofessional workshop. Set for 8:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, April 2, in room 316 of South Campus Center, this program will explore the cross-cultural tools most commonly used to enhance leadership effectiveness. The guest speaker is Dr. Angeles Arrien, an anthropologist, educator and author who is president of the Foundation for Cross-Cultural Education.








  • “Professionalism in Medical Education and Practice” is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, May 14, in room 316 of South Campus Center. A national focus on the meaning of professionalism in medicine—and on questions of how to define it, evaluate it and teach it—forms the context of the workshop. The guest speaker is M. Brownell Anderson, associate vice president of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Division of Medical Education.
