An artist’s interpretation of the hands of two UW heart surgeons and the operating field in which they are working appear as part of a public art project unveiled Feb. 14 in downtown Seattle.

“Within Diseases and Health” is a series of triptychs exploring the human circulatory system and the city’s lifeblood — electric utilities. The artists are Dan Corson, artist-in-residence at Seattle City Light, and Lyn McCracken, photographer-in-residence there.

The gloved hands in the image are those of Dr. Gabriel Aldea, associate professor of surgery in the Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Dr. Ronald Wood, a surgical resident about to complete his training in cardiothoracic surgery.

The first part of the series, called “Conduct,” will be on view until June 30. The exhibition space, named Electric Gallery, is the exterior western wall of the Union Substation, at Union and Western Avenue.
