CASE WINNERS: Once again the UW scored big in the competition sponsored by the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) Region VIII, covering Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Idaho, Montana and Western Canada. The awards included a silver in Internal Audience Periodicals for University Week (Nancy Wick, Steve Hill and Claire Dietz) and a silver in Magazines with a Circulation of more than 20,000 for the alumni magazine, Columns (Tom Griffin, Ken Shafer and Jon Marmor).

University Week photographer Mary Levin won a gold in Photography — Series for “Faces of the Millenium,” while frequent UWeek writer Steven Goldsmith won a bronze in News Releases for “What Makes a Difference in Mom’s Life?” “Prize Catch” snagged a silver in Features and Articles in Magazines, Newsletters and Tabloids for Health Sciences news writer Walter Neary.

Publications Services designers Jo-Ann Sire and John Linse won five awards as a team in the competition — gold in Visual Design — Individual Publications for Opening the Doors to Our Future: Invitation, silvers in Visual Design — Overall Publication Design for “Opening the Doors to Our Future: Building Dedication Book,” “Research That Matters,” and “UW Medicine, Changing Our World” and a bronze for “UW Medicine Dean’s Report.” Sire also won a gold in Student Audiences Recruitment Folders, Fliers and Brochures for “Freshman Information Piece” and a bronze in Visual Design — Individual Publications for “Eifman Gala Invitation.”

The “UW Second Annual Recognition Gala Event Package” won a grand gold in Visual Design, Illustration and Photography and gold in the Special Audiences/Programs — Exhibition and Special Event Publications for Cheryl Nations, Alanya Cannon, Meishan Bettendorf, Erin Shea, Mel Curtis Photography, Joanne De Pue, Jean Hayes, Barbara Koh, Sarah Conradt Creative and Susan Stoddard. The UW’s “Report to Contributors” won gold in Donor/Prospect Audiences — Foundation Annual Reports for the same team plus Kathleen Donnelly and Sire.

Nations, Cannon, Bettendorf, Shea, Stoddard and Sire also won a bronze in Visual Design — Individual Publications for “An Afternoon at Vanumanutagi Ranch—Event Invitation.”

The UW Tacoma’s Institute of Technology CD-ROM won silver in Interactive Multimedia Programs for Mike Wark, Imageworks Media Group and GA Design.

Tricia Thompson won gold in Public Relations Projects for “Opening the Doors to our Future,” while Sandy Marvinney and Deborah Illman won gold in promotional copy for their work on the brochure for that project. Marvinney also won a bronze in promotional copy for “Engineering the Future.”

Paul Roybal, Lisa Quinn, Jackie Phillips and Laurie Lonsdorf won a silver in public relations for “U-Pass Communications,” while Roybal, Quinn, Phillips and Nigel Heinsius won a silver in the same category for “Ride in the Rain.”

The UW Career Discovery Week won a bronze in Alumni Relations Projects for Don Gallagher, Mark Falconer, Mark Stewart, Suzanne Mercier, Bryan Daisley and Susan Templeton.
