New portal opens door to digital resources

UW TechTransfer Digital Ventures has created a new Web portal to provide easier access and information regarding free digital resources written and developed at the University.

UW OpenDoor (http://depts.washington.edu/opendoor) will contain links to and descriptions of many open source software projects, freeware, Web-based tools, content, teaching simulations and datasets. The site already contains more than 100 products, with more being added all the time. The site can be browsed by discipline, developer or by tool name.

“Digital Ventures created this site to provide users easier access to digital tools,” says Charles Williams, director. “One of our goals is to maximize the public impact of software and digital media developed at the University. Our staff works to manage and deploy licensed intellectual property created here, so developing OpenDoor was a natural extension of our work. We believe the UW is the first university to provide a resource such as OpenDoor.

“We hope that researchers and developers across campus will add to the OpenDoor portal, or alert us to corrections or changes regarding resources which they control.”
