815 Mercer opens: UW community invited to attend Open House
The UW community is invited to see the new laboratories, offices and auditorium in the renovated building at 815 Mercer St. in the South Lake Union area at an Open House from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 9. There is no cost to attend, but those who want to go should respond before March 2 by phone or e-mail to 206-685-9420 or hsevents@u.washington.edu.
Researchers have been moving into the facility since January. The building, former home of the natural gas company and commonly known as the “Blue Flame” building, was renovated by Vulcan Real Estate, which has several projects in the area.
Speakers at the program opening the event will be Dr. Mark Emmert, UW president; Jeffrey Brotman, president of the UW Board of Regents; Dr. Paul Ramsey, vice president of medical affairs and dean of the School of Medicine; Jan Drago, Seattle City Council president; and Ada Healey, vice president of Vulcan Real Estate.
After the program, those who attend will be able to tour much of the facility, including labs for the Center for Cardiovascular Biology and Regenerative Medicine, led by Dr. Charles Murry; the Center for Translational Medicine in Women’s Health, led by Dr. Nora Disis; and the Program in Allergy and Inflammation, led by Dr. Karol Bomsztyk.
The South Lake Union shuttle provides service from the Health Sciences Building, with stops behind UW Medical Center and the D wing, to the 815 Mercer building. Beginning March 7, service will be provided in the evenings until about 7:30 p.m. For a schedule, see the Web site at http://www.uwshuttles.com
