Claremont Trio to perform March 15

The UW International Chamber Music Series continues with a performance by the young and exciting Claremont Trio. The concert is at 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 15 in Meany Theater.

Twin sisters Emily and Julia Bruskin formed the Claremont Trio with Donna Kwong at the Juilliard School in 1999. The group received the first ever Kalichstein/Laredo/Robinson International Trio Award in December, 2003, which resulted in an extensive tour of 20 major United States venues. They also won the 2001 Young Concert Artists International Auditions.

Committed to expanding the standard repertoire, the Claremont Trio actively seeks out new and unknown works. They have premiered a number of pieces commissioned for them including compositions by Daniel Kellogg, Mason Bates, and Hillary Zipper. The trio is extensively involved in music education and has been recognized for their engaging and interactive programs for all ages. After a recent performance, the Cincinnati Enquirer wrote of the group, “Their exuberant performance and gutsy repertoire… was the kind of fresh approach that keeps chamber music alive.”

The program includes Beethoven’s Trio in D Major, Op. 70, No. 1, Ghost, Schoenfield’s Café Music and Mendelssohn’s Trio in C Minor, Op. 66.

Single tickets for the performance are $31 and are available at the UW Arts Ticket Office 206-543-4880, as well as online at www.uwworldseries.org.
