An evening of elegance, anyone?

Seeking an evening of elegance on campus? The Seattle-based company Dance for Joy is sponsoring “An Evening in Vienna,” a Viennese ball in the grand tradition, Sunday, Oct. 22, in the HUB Ballroom.

“This event is challenging Seattle’s notion that it’s always good to be able to ‘go casual,'” wrote Dance for Joy co-owner Lilli Ann Carey in promotional materials for the evening of dress and dance. “When we are called upon to be our best we often find something not always expressed in the day-to-day. We arrive expecting a graciousness and we find it both in ourselves and in others, and it breathes a certain elegance and delight into the event.”

Attire for the evening is formal black tie, or “vintage Victorian, Edwardian or Ragtime formal wear.” And for the many who might need to brush up their ballroom dancing skills, Dance for Joy is offering classes at the UW Women’s Center as well as other locations.

Tickets are $45 each for general admission, and $25 for high school and college students. For more information, visit online at www.danceforjoy.biz, or call 206-264-5646.
