Dance, piano in spotlight at Meany

A flamenco dance company and a classical pianist are on tap in the next week at Meany Hall for the Performing Arts.

Noche Flamenca, founded in Madrid in 1993, will perform Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 16-18. The company – one of the most successful in Spain — was founded by Martin Santangelo, who is now its artistic director, and his wife Soledad Barrio.

Garrick Ohlsson will appear as part of the President’s Piano Series on Tuesday, Nov. 21. On the program are Beethoven’s Sonata, Op. 10, No. 1, Liszt’s Sonata in B Minor, Liebermann’s 8th Nocturne, Chopin’s Nocturne, Op. 48, No. 1 and Prokofiev’s Sonata No. 7 in B-flat Major, Op. 83.

All performances are at 8 p.m. Tickets are $42 for the dance company and $36 for Ohlsson. They are available at the UW Arts Ticket Office at 206-543-4880, as well as online at www.uwworldseries.org.  Ticket holders are invited to come early to learn about the programs at a free, pre-show lecture 45 minutes prior to curtain. The talks take place in the Meany Hall west lobby.
