Workshop set for faculty mothers-to-be

Balance@UW, an initiative to help faculty balance their academic careers with their personal lives, is offering sessions for faculty women who are pregnant or in the process of adoption.

The first session will be held from

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 2. Randi Shapiro, assistant director of benefits and work/life, and Rhonda Forman, director of academic human resources, will discuss UW policies and resources that are designed to assist with the transition to parenthood and which help balance the new family role with an academic career.

In addition, Margaret Bergmann-Ness, a facilitator with 15 years’ experience in working with women and men on issues surrounding pregnancy, childbirth and the adjustment to parenthood, will guide a discussion about the psychological and physiological dimensions of childbirth and parenting.

The second session, to be held from 1:30 to 3 p.m. March 9, will be a continuation of discussions about achieving balance, facilitated by Bergman-Ness.

Advance registration is requested.
