UW Police launch night walk

The UW Police Department launched a new program this week to provide uniformed escorts for faculty, staff and students to and from buildings, from parking lots and within close proximity of the campus. Husky NightWalk, will be available from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. every night of the week except on holidays.

The program will be staffed by full-time uniformed security guards who can be dispatched for service through the UWPD Communications Center. “The primary focus of the program is to provide a service to the community during the night time for those community members who want an escort to and from their vehicles, to and from buildings, or within close proximity of the campus by foot or by vehicle,” says UWPD Chief Vicky Stormo.

When the security guards are not busy, they will assist the community with vehicle jumps, admits (for those who forgot their keys or locked themselves out), checking buildings and parking lots, and calling into UWPD any suspicious activity. A mini-van will be available to provide the vehicle jumps and to transport people longer distances, but the primary function of Husky Night Walk is to provide escorts on foot.

The phone number for Husky NightWalk is 206-685-WALK (9255).
