$1.8 million saved in energy costs

The UW avoided $1.8 million in energy costs for January through November 2001.

The savings are in comparison to the previous year, adjusted for variations in temperature. The effect of mild weather this fall and winter is removed from the equation, which makes the savings even more impressive, says Executive Vice President Weldon Ihrig. Savings are reported for natural gas consumption and for electricity, and combined to show overall savings.

“With Mother Nature’s role excluded, we know that the success in campus energy use is due to the maintenance and operations conservation measures taken, and conserving behavior by individuals,” Ihrig says. “These measures will continue, and each campus member has a part to play.”
