Award for Stamm


Dr. Walter Stamm, professor of medicine and head of the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has received the Thomas Parran Award from the American Sexually Transmitted Diseases Association. The award, the group’s highest honor, is given in recognition of lifetime career achievement in the field. Stamm, the 27th recipient, has focused his research on Chlamydia trachomatis infections, the most common reported infection in the United States and a major cause of pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility and ectopic pregnancy.



Christopher Reeve grant


The Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Forum, a program of the Northwest Regional Spinal Cord Injury System in the UW Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, has received a grant of more than $4,000 from the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation. The SCI Forum is a monthly presentation and discussion series on topics of interest to people with such injuries and their families. SCI Forums are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, except in the summer. Medical communications


“A Day in the Life of a Medical Communicator” is the topic for a presentation from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Oct. 13, in rooms 348-350 of the South Campus Center. A panel of speakers representing several health and medical communications careers will discuss work available in the field and answer questions. The free event is sponsored by the Northwest chapter of the American Medical Writers Association. No registration is necessary.
