LICENSE TO GIVE: A 1990 graduate of the UW School of Dentistry recently became the proud holder of UW specialty license plate number W2007A.  Thomas Em, who recently moved to Walla Walla after practicing in Oregon, didn’t expect to get a Husky plate at all when he went to the Department of Licensing, let alone one bearing the current year.  But Em saw a poster advertising the plates, and on being told that proceeds from their sale support a UW scholarship fund, he was happy to sign up.
Em is now among more than 5,000 registered UW plate owners who contribute annually to the General Scholarship Fund. “I’m grateful for the opportunity that I had to attend UW,” he said. “I chose the license plate to show my affiliation and to help give back a portion of what my education has done for me.”
The current numbering cycle will end when some lucky driver gets W9999Z.

MANAGING WELL: Tom Lee, professor of management and associate dean for academic and faculty affairs in the UW Business School, has been named president of the Academy of Management for 2007-2008.  The academy is a professional association of more than 17,000 scholars from 100 nations dedicated to creating and disseminating knowledge about management and organizations.
